Salamander
Salamander
From the Middle Ages onward, people believed that the Salamander was no ordinary creature, but a living spirit of fire. Alchemists claimed it was born within the very heart of the flames and remained invisible to human eyes until the fire burned fiercely enough. It was said that wherever the Salamander appeared, an ordinary flame would begin to take on a life of its own.

According to ancient chronicles, no Fire Being feared its presence. On the contrary, the flames burned hotter, and creatures born of fire fought with extraordinary strength. Travelers warned, however, that seeing a Salamander dancing among the flames was a sign to extinguish the fire immediately. If the fire survived until dawn, it would no longer belong to humankind.
