Raven
Raven
For centuries, ravens have been regarded as guardians of the boundary between the living and the dead. People believed they could see the souls of the recently deceased and find the places where the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest.

It was said that a raven never appears by chance. When one perched upon a rooftop or cawed persistently outside a window, it meant that death was near or that someone within the household had unfinished business with the other side.

People regarded ravens with a mixture of respect and unease. Killing one was considered a terrible misfortune, for it could anger the guardian that ensures the dead remain on their own side.
