Papa Legba is one of the most important and revered figures in Haitian Vodou. He is the guardian of the gates between the world of the living and the world of spirits, as well as the keeper of roads, passages, and crossroads. According to tradition, no spirit can be summoned or heard without his permission.

In many stories, it is Papa Legba who opens the path for the dead, allowing spirits and other beings to cross the boundary between worlds.
