No one knows when the first Apeman appeared. At first, scientists believed they had merely discovered an unknown species of ape. They soon realized, however, that they were dealing with something far more disturbing.

The creatures were more intelligent than any known primate. They used simple tools, lived in organized groups, and learned at an alarming rate. When researchers looked into their eyes, many felt as though they were staring at distant relatives of mankind.

One biologist warned that evolution might have just begun a new chapter and that, for the first time in thousands of years, humanity had found its natural successor.

It did not take long for isolated incidents to turn into open conflict. By the time people understood the scale of the threat, it was already too late. Evolution had come full circle in blood.
