Wererat
In medieval Europe, people believed that not every plague was brought by rats. Some rats were the plague itself. Legends told of people cursed for their greed or terrible crimes, who transformed each night into enormous, unnaturally intelligent rats. They could squeeze through the smallest cracks, and wherever they appeared, disease was never far behind.
It was said that a Wererat's bite rarely killed its victim outright. Far worse was what followed. Fever, blackened skin, and a slow, agonizing death were only the beginning. Some believed that those who survived eventually began to shun the daylight and hear whispers echoing from the city's sewers.
